Curtis was born in Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia the daughter of Carmencita Ojales a Filipina from Bolinao Pangasinan and James Ernest Curtis-Smith, an Australian lawyer. In 1982, her father married Ojales. Jasmine's younger sister, also an actor, is her father. Their father's side had a half-sister called Clare who died in 2007 of a cardiovascular disease at the age of four months.
